Post Re: The Phishes in Chicago
Some thoughts.

I have the coolest wife ever.
I have some pretty awesome friends.
Chicago is damn near too much fun.
It is apparently hard as hell to get arrested in Chicago. We tried hard.
Half Acre Daisy Cutter and Revolution Anti-Hero are as good as it gets.
No that would be Zombie Dust on tap.
Finally made it to 2 bars I’ve dreamed about going to for a long time, Hopleaf and Map Room.
I love mass transit.
The Chicago skyline from the lawn at Northerly Island may be the most spectacular backdrop ever.
Taking my wife and friends sailing on Lake Michigan may be the best couple hundred I ever spent.
I miracled Paul Bolger from Mr. Blotto into the Sunday show.
You could spend all day in the Field Museum.
The architectural river tour is so awesome.
The Congress Plaza on Monday was a WAY different scene than the previous 3 days.
Frontera Grill may be my favorite restaurant.
The duck in a green penut mole there is too good for words.
Blackberry guacamole is not nearly as crazy as it sounds.
I don’t need a vacation to recover from vacation, I need an ICU.
Get my buddy Chris drunk and he will jump into whatever body of water is available.
Climbing Buckingham Fountain is a lot harder than it looks.
If you are going to a White Sox day game sit on the first base side. Plenty of shade.
Scalpers were trying to charge more for outfield seats than the box office.
White Sox fans were fun to hang out with at the game.
Put some El Diablo on your Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage.
A Billy Goat Double Cheeseburger is decidedly not “the best”.
A Giordano’s Meat…And More Meat stuffed pizza will give you meat sweats…and more meat sweats.
Always check the start time on your ticket the day of the show.
Simone’s Bar is a crazy looking place and my friend did the design work for it.
Miller’s Pub is a great place to grab a beer.
Their ribs may be world famous but it would be world famous for not being the best. Or the worst to be fair.
Swimming in Lake Michigan 2 miles off shore holding on to the towline, drinking a beer and laughing definitely requires a flotation device.
Eleven City Diner puts salami wrapped in cheese in their Bloody Marys.
I like salami wrapped in cheese in my Bloody Mary.
They also serve a killer breakfast all day.
Get there early.
A train filling completely at 2:30 am with Pearl Jam fans is a pretty weird sight.
There is a nice little beer garden/smoking deck out back of Clark St Ale House.
The free chips at Harry Carey’s were indeed free.
It is hot as balls inside the Goose Island Brewery.
Killer Mike’s only requirement for the Goose Island/Pitchfork specially brewed collaboration beer “Run the Jewels” was that it smelled like weed.
It did.
The bourbon barrel warehouse at Goose Island is awe inspiring.
The Phishes kill it.

McJeff, I thoroughly enjoyed your post. We live down the road in a little town south of Indianapolis. We had a tradition when the girls were still in school to go to Chicago and spend the day every January 1st. Not sure why we started the tradition, but we had fun, they fell in love with the windy city and now they visit with their children as well. I have not been back for over 15 years, but your posts brought back the memories. You should be a tour guide.

Hahaha! I know that's real :D

We (my family, that is) were in Chicago a few years ago for our summer vacation, and had taken one of the commuter trains out to Brookfield zoo for the day... we were coming back into downtown where our hotel was, and the train was full of college kids headed to the Panic show that night. It was pandemonium on that train! ... it was so flippin' loud I actually bailed out and found a relatively quiet rail car. Yet another sign I am getting older :?

Glad you had a great trip. Chicago is an awesome town, my parents grew up there, and my Dad was a lifelong Cubbies fan. We had a kick ass dinner at Harry Carey's our last night there. Fabulous restaurant, and a totally kick butt town.
