Post Estimated 60,000 at Wanee?
Being only my 2nd Wanee... I would say attendance seemed about (or maybe a little more) than last year - which was estimated at about 30,000. What do you all think?

Although, if you look at the posting, it looks like it was posted from the SOSMP.

Not even close...unless 2/3 of them were invisible, also last year there were way more people in my opinion. I felt that attendance was down considerably from last year.

Maybe 15,000. Much less than last year. Nicer people too. I didn't see one ugly moment. Last year I saw quite a few.

I too feel that it was less than last year, however...
While having breakfast I asked why the back was open this year and not last, i was told that the park was informed by live nation that they had pre sold 40,000 tickets and that they should be prepared. I think they was fibbin to SOSMP.

It really would be nice to get some REAL numbers about attendance over the years. SOMEBODY must know. I don't understand why this is classified top-secret.

I mean, I DIG imaginary numbers and all, but not in this regard!

i agree with the others that say this year there were fewer people. I usually stay towards the back of the field every year during the headlining sets and the crowd was a lot bigger last year.

I got to be pretty good friends with a older gentlemen that worked for the park and he said Saturday morning that SOSMP's estimate was 30,000 plus. He had no reason to lie about it.....just sayin. ;)

Well I agree with Pete, my guess is attendance was around 15,000. I was guessing 25k-30k for last year's Wanee, and got corrected by some folks who would know, i.e. people that work there. They said it was more like 20k last year. This time around, I estimated about 2/3 of last year's crowd, so 15k would be about right...

...but I am certainly no expert in estimating crowd numbers... it's just one guys' opinion on the intermess, so it's worth what you paid for it :P ...

I am not sure why it's such a closely held secret either. I don't know why LiveNation would overestimate to SOSMP. My guess is they might estimate over somewhat to assure enough services... e.g. there were certainly enough portolets, at least in the festival area. But 40k? That's a silly number to state, for the logistical purposes of the park folks.

BTW, I saw that the park set up a temp 'general store' at the stables past the special person's camping. They were selling ice, beer, sodas and sandwiches. Pretty cool thing for those camping back there, not sure how many folks knew it was there though. I drove by it...

The OP's link isn't well attributed, so I don't put much validity to it. According to the piece, the park has magically grown by 200 acres... AFAIK, the SOSMP is about 600 acres, not 800 acres  ... I could have written that piece without ever setting foot in the place. Reads like a generic bit of marketing hype to me...
