SWEET STUFF Mike!
I'm a suburban boy from Ohio. Sweet Home Alabamy pissed me off, cuz they dissed Neil, who was a god to me back then. And then I found out Neil was okay with it, so I guess I better be too. Later, Street Survivors came out... and that was right about when I discovered Little Feat, and my regional prejudice just had to fall away. Because the music was undeniably good. It also helped that I was in a band with a guy from Baton Rouge, who was a walking encyclopedia of all things Southern Rock. He could pick anything by the Allmans, and Wet Willie, and Elvin Bishop... The stuff gets in your veins, if you listen long enough...
Here's what folks rarely say about Skynyrd: those f&ckers could PLAY. Check the Old Grey Whistle Test show that Mike linked... DAYUM. TIGHT stuff. Allen and Gary kick major butt throughout. And Billy could hold his own with anyone on the keys. Nobody was a slacker in that band. They could knock you on your ass when they played live.
And that's all I have to say about that.
Thanks for the morning tunes, folks
