Perhaps they did raise the price of using the park too much for the promoters...????
I'm not so sure that's it. The price thing is a red herring that Judy VZ has put forth... she's sticking to that story, but the word from many others who have been involved with events at SOSMP for years is: the lady just doesn't play well with the other children. My guess is, she moved, because she could not have her way... whatever that was. Evidence of what she wanted, vision-wise, will be known come October at StAug Amphitheater.
I read the Facebook item from the Aura people, I sensed some fatigue on their end. And yeah, the economics of it has to figure in... even with a phat trust fund to play with (I have no idea that this is the case, just doing a what-if here), people can tolerate losing money for only so many years, before it just takes the wind out of your sails... but that doesn't land at the feet of SOSMP. Most promoters do the best they can to package a great weekend, and hope that having all the right elements in place, produces X thousand admits. When it doesn't, the park isn't to blame; after all, it's only one part of the cost of doing the fest.
It's kind of like opening a restaurant... thirty years ago I had a good bud who was a line cook / sometime restaurant manager... he said you can open a restaurant, have the right place, great staff, good menu, good atmosphere, do everything right... and you still have about a 70% chance of completely losing your ass. The public being fickle and such. I think fests are the same way.
The fact that the Suwannee Rooots Revival is happening, gives the lie to the idea that 'SOSMP is too expensive unless you are Hulaween or Live Nation'...
Just my two cents. As usual.
Time will tell what happens here....
