I usually just do cans. They may be heavy, but they tend to keep longer than some of the packaging that is out there. You are right about the poster. really looks good this year.

Go to Publix, browse to see what's BOGO, and boom you are done. They had dried items such as potatoes au gratin on sale when I was there yesterday, as well as canned items that were around a dollar. Decent too, not the cheap lima beans and stuff.

I love publix. Not to go cheap on the starving folks, but you can find 4 packs of vegetable cans BOGO. Thats 8 items right there after you separate. Lets be honest. We want the poster.

Dry beans (in a plastic bag)

Rice (also dry).

They are affordable, and there's something about the combination of the two which makes beans and rice together really nutritious...

From wiki: "The dish is very nutritious. Rice is rich in starch, an excellent source of energy. Rice also has iron, vitamin B and protein. Beans also contain a good amount of iron and an even greater amount of protein than rice. Together they make up a complete protein, which provides each of the amino acids the body cannot make for itself."

Uhm, you can get 20 packs of Ramens noodles for under five bucks.

Added bonus for the needy, they damn sure don't need to buy a canister of salt to add flavor.
