That archive dot org link is just

biz. zarre.

I could use a little context. I have never heard about this particular thing before. I am but a casual Deadhead, and having growed up in the Midwest, I was well away from the ground zero of all things counterculture. We had a good time nonetheless, back in the day ;)

I gather that there is a bogus show date / setlist / live cuts collection that has endured in the Deadhead world, since once something is out there on the intermess, it's awfully hard to get that toothpaste back into the tube.

Do people actually believe in this incident being attributed to a mass mind control experiment by the DoD / CIA??

moon landing and Barton Hall 05/08/77

My first Dead show was 05/21/77 in Lakeland (Dick's Picks 29, I think).

They played 26 shows from April 22nd to may 28th. It happened.

I can only wish that I had been into the Grateful Dead back then... :(

But on the bright side, I'm forever grateful for what I did get! 8-)

The show absolutely did happen. For a long time it was regarded as the best GD show of all time. There are a couple of reasons for that.

1) Spring tour 1977 is one of the absolute peaks of their career.

2) It is a really good recording.

3) It was widely circulated.

4) It was easily obtainable in 2nd or 3rd generation tapes.

The guitar in Loser is painfully sweet. The second set is amazingly good. The Scarlet > Fire to pen the second set is one of the finest and then St. Stephen > Not Fade Away > St. Stephen > Morning Dew must be heard to be appreciated. Morning Dew in particular is orgasmically incendiary. Seriously if you do nothing else go listen to Morning Dew.

Nowadays with such easy access to everything this show has lost some of it's polish. And the fact that everyone is too cool to all like the same thing. Other shows of that run are probably just as good if not better. The Boston show the night before 5/7 and the Buffalo show the next night 5/9 are killer. The 5/17 Birmingham, AL show is one of my favorites. The 2 Atlanta shows are great and the Lakeland and Pembroke Pines shows were made into a Dicks Picks album. You really cannot go wrong with May 77.

Tears running down my face 05/21/77 as they hit "Me and My Uncle."

Corned beef hash will do that to ya every time.
