I had always heard that "in Florida, it's not the heat, it's the stupidity", but after being in the NE last week I will offer this bit of advice to our northern neighbors:

Modern air conditioning was invented in 1902! So yankees, you need to abandon your denial, and invest in some! I agree that it's not hot for long up there, but it does get hot, and on most summer days, it's cooler down here (at least in my area) than up there! I enjoyed my stay, but felt like I was primitive camping, swimming in my sweat soaked bed each night for lack of breeze, and needlessly suffering the intense humidity. I'm beginning to understand the source of their sour attitudes, too COLD and too HOT. Wake up hot people! 8-) 8-) 8-)
Thanks for letting me VENT!

I have always had AC here in NY  8-) ;)

Post Re: Hope Spring's Eternal
The first house my son lived in New York was without AC.
He was driving home from work one day and someone had obviously bought a newer/bigger one and had put their old one out by the street for pick-up.....which he did.
Told him to clean it up and replace the filter and try it.
He put it in his window and it worked like a charm.

But Rev is right.....most of the older buildings and houses do not have AC. And it does get hot there on occasions.

Hottest summer I ever spent was when my Dad was building a Lock and Dam in Sardis Ohio.
Down in the Ohio River valley renting an old house with no A/C sucked. Before the Clean Air act, breathing was like smoking two packs of cigarettes a day.

More heat related deaths north of Florida every year.
