"Thank you kindly. Oh, yeah!" (Mick Jagger from Yayas)

My dad was an inveterate punster, as am I. So it seemed natural that my son would be one, too.

Another of his jokes, a math one!

Did you hear about the farmer who had 100 head of cattle. When he counted them he thought he only had 99 until he rounded them up!

I hope thats not an insinuation that his career is over. Hes only 66, he has many of years of playing music ahead of him.

Also, for what its worth, this whole story screams substance abuse rehab. If thats the case I hope he gets the help he needs and we see him back in 2015 (headlining Wanee with Phil and Furthur!).

The whole business about "my people" and "your people" reminds me of going to Yosemite in October 2003. We were looking for some exotic jerky for (now ex-)wife's department head. Buffalo jerky. On the way back, we saw a woman with a bunch of tie-dyed stuff on display and a sign about various jerkies.

Wife (former, the bipolar one) says: "You go buy it. These are your people."

Heh. I know that one! :)

Continuing the 'my people' theme:

I have a friend who lives in Alabama. We get together for various musical adventures a few times a year... kindred spirits donchaknow. So as it happens, there's always travel logistics / what band is happening when at what venue / what's for dinner... all manner of things being continually worked out...

And when things work out especially smoothly, I ask my pal Steve: How'd you *do* that??

And he answers magnanimously: Simple! These are my people!!

"Thanx, I'm doing fine, just a bit too much work and especially travel. This year has been especially busy; I've put in more miles in the first 6 months than I normally do in a year. Taking some time off, which I haven't done in 50 years...
Cheers,
Weir"

Jambands today...answering a buddy checking on him with concern.

Most of you can probably relate to this story....

Growing up, my parents always warned me about MY friends, said they are a bad influence and would get me in trouble......

Little did they know (or admit)....I WAS the BAD influence ....
(and got myself in trouble).

Don't know if it is true...or even reliable....
but I read that Weir and Ratdog has already taken in $18.5 million this year.

Heck, I would take the rest of the year off too. And maybe next year also.

Thank you for that little pearl of info, Nole.

Tell ya what, I don't know why the powers that be in the world of Weir / Ratdog / Further / GD could not have come up with something better than "circumstances dictate cancelling" every flippin' Bobby gig for the next five months.

Surely there was much to consider, tour logistics, costs of cancelled gigs, tour support payroll & what to do for all those people... not a minor decicision to make at all. *I* could have come up with a better two sentence blurb, than what they delivered to us fans the other day, and I got a crap score on my English SATs.

Speculation and the intermess rumor mill could have been managed, had a reasonable explanation been offered in the first fricken' place.

Ah well. Life goes on.

I'm following Railroad Earth from here out anyhow

That was from the article in 2004 http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/66204/exhausted-weir-cancels-ratdog-tour, and referred to "The Dead", which was touring at that time.
