I DID once have a high school math teacher, Mr Kaufman (he was SO nice), who would respond to a wrong answer with "Well...that's one way to do it, but maybe let's try it this way...."

....which I always thought was funny because, you know, math is generally the one subject NOT up for debate.

Heh :)

I had an eighth grade math teacher who was a cantankerous old dude. My impression was he coulda been working at a university, chairing a think tank, or paid handsomely by some corporation, but he said he loved teaching kids. Anyways, his lines were~

I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong!

*and*

There are no short cuts in math. But there are easier ways of doing things.
:!:

TieYourShoes can check me on this stuff :D

They did team teaching. The other guy was younger, and more or less, tolerated the old dude. You could always tell when the old man was about to tell one of his groaner math pun jokes: the younger teacher left the room. He couldn't take repeated exposure to them!

I am SO disappointed that beach bob would be talking about ME this way!

Wait! I never had beach bob in class! That means there's another dude out there just like me!

Actually, there ARE those types, but not many left. The new generation replacing us ancients won't KNOW any good puns and groaners!

Times have changed a lot, obviously, and I am slowly changing with them. We used to love Stand and Deliver (the practice AND the movie), but it simply doesn't engage any more (if it ever did).

I have a year and a half left. All this work is getting in the way of my concert going and concert-reviewing, anyway!

How did all this stuff end up on Farmer's thread?

We are all really going to miss him, but our pain is nothing compared to Warren's.

Well, turns out I was correct the FIRST TIME, and then I second-guessed myself.

Do what my teachers always did..... if somebody doubts you, scream "I'M THE TEACHER, I'M ALWAYS RIGHT!!!"*

*that never actually happened. :P

I often make little arithmetic mistakes (good with the derivatives and integrals, but...). And I tell my students that when one catches me. I say, "I make mistakes on occasion. PLEASE tell me so that I can fix them. I don't want to screw up other students."

I think they like that.

Oooh. Slick.

That is 'gotcha' turned on its head. You aren't patrolling for where the kid goofed; they are looking for where *you* did. :!:

Dang sneaky teachers!! Gettin' those kids to pay attention...

an' think...

an' LEARN...

an' stuff...
