Post BBC Greatest Riffs
The BBC in London sponsored a contest to establish the Greatest Opening Riffs of All Time. Their findings:

5) "Layla"....Derek and the Dominoes
4) "Smoke on the Water".....Deep Purple
3) "Back in Black"......AC/DC
2) "Sweet Child of Mine".....Guns-N-Roses
and
1) "Whole Lotta Love".....Led Zeppelin

Can you argue with any of these? They are all terrific....but do you consider them the best?

As far as OPENING riffs, this is a pretty solid list.

All five are pretty universally recognized by a very wide audience.....

It is a very good list. Everyone has a couple they could add.

I have to say, and you can see where this is going, that when I saw BBC I thought of something else first.
