Ernie, Tampa, 41

I love the ABB and have been going to their shows for 20+ years. I also worship Gov't Mule. I have been on their bandwagon since the first album. I really miss Allan Woody. His musicianship on the bass really set the Mule apart in the early days. I still love them but I don't think they reach the heights they used to.

I recently started to dig on the Drive By Truckers. Southern Rock Opera is an unbelievable double disc. I have been buying up all their stuff since I heard it. They really put on a great live show.

I have also been following Derek Trucks since he was a kid. I remember he opened up for Greg on one of his solo shows. Out comes this kid, he was 17 at the time, wearing loose jeans with his baseball cap skewed to the side like some suburban wigger. He freakin' tore it up. I recently saw him at the Tampa Theater with his wife and they put on a great blues show.

I went to Bonaroo 2 years ago. I had a good time but it was a little much. We camped a couple rows back from the main road. There were Nitros junkies huffing outside our tent all night. I was about to go postal. This is my first Wanee and it sounds a little more laid back than that. I is like all my current favorite bands in one place on one weekend. I cannot wait.

Been to Wanee before?: twice, 2006 & 2007. Missed last year because of a Johnny Winter show I was involved in.
.

I have always loved Johnny Winter. How is he doing these days? I saw him in St Pete, about 10 years ago and he was really terrible. He had a bad night.

I got a couple of his 'Johnny Winter And' live albums when I was a kid and loved them. His solos were freakin' incredible. And he had a great blues voice.

He had a bad string of years. He was on anti-anxiety medication and was drinking heavily which made him lethargic. He also had carpal tunnel problems and fell and broke his hip. He is off the medication and has sobered up. His playing much better and the growl is back in his voice. He sits when he plays now because the hip still gives him problems and he's legally blind and he's 65 years old. He's not the Johnny of 20 years ago but he is well worth going to see now, much better than 10 years ago.

First name? (optional, of course): Chris
Where from?: Chicago
Age?: 23
Male/Female?: Male
Been to Wanee before?: Nope - excited
What do you do for a living?: office job at a Zinc Processing Plant

and most importantly, music:
Play any instruments?: No, I really wish I did though.

Favorite bands/artists?: Umphrey's Mcgee, moe., Grateful Dead, ABB, Phish, Toad the Wet Sprocket, STS9

Finally, what is it about music that brought you here?: My father. He is obsessed with the Bros. His license plate reads, ALLBROS, seriously. I used to listen to heavy metal growing up. In 2000 he told me he was going to see his favortie band live and wanted to know if I would join him. In my mind I was like s#%t - I hate elevator music. I reluctantly agreed to go because I knew this would make him happy. - Holy s#%t was I wrong! This concert alone opened up doors to music and life that I had no idea existed. Since that day music has changed my life for the better. I distinctly remember the shirts the ABB fans were wearing at that particular show, they read "The ABB without Dickey Betts is like life without passion". Sweet right? Anyways, thanks pops.

Dartdog, thanks for the DTB links. I think it is so cool these days that you can get a great recording of a show you've been to. Most of the times days after the show.

It wasn't too long ago when I paid $40 for a Zeppelin bootleg that sounded like crap. And I swear I convinced myself it was the greatest thing ever.
