Post Best Allman Brothers Show/Tour/Era???
Just read this article on NY Times on the Dead http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/12/arts/ ... anted=1&em

Just wondering if you Allman fans out there have any opinions about the last 40 years of Allman Brothers concerts: What was their best show?; What was the best tour?; etc.

Best times for me were when Duane was still alive and Berry!!! Late 60's then again in the late 70's mid 80's....hell that is a loaded :?: and it is just too dam hard to answer....I have seen them in all of their eras so kinda hard for me to pick a fav :!: Especially knowing most of the past and some of the present members :!:

Thanks, Mulelady. I know it's all opinion, but that is kind of what I wanted to hear.

I discovered Allman Bros. in high school through my uncle's vinyls ("Eat a Peach" & "Beginnings").

The first time I saw them was at Bonaroo in '03. So the present band is what I know best. Derek and Warren are incredible! Do wish I could have seen Duane and Dickey, though.

These guys are one of if not my FAVORITE band. I just love them. First show was in 89 I think at the Orphium in Boston. Haven't missed a year since then!! CAN'T WAIT to spend the weekend with them at WANEE!!

I have loved ABB in all of there forms, 1st time seeing them live was in "92" Warren, Dickey and Allen. I do wish I would have got to see them in the early "70's" though. Really would to love to have seen Duane and Barry.

I remember that tour. I saw them at the World in Chicago. I remember Woody had this freakish bass. I don't remember how many strings it had but 2 roadies had to help him put it on. He used it during an unbelieveable percussion/bass solo.
:o

I may be dating myself here but here goes.
First time seeing the Bros was in the mid 70's back on good old Long Island, They were playing in some sort of benefit concert along with Marshall Tucker and I was able to con my big brother to drag me along. I can remember Tucker playing and then waiting and waiting for the Bros to come out. Some one would come out every so often and say they would be out soon, and we just kept waiting. As I recall the talk going around was that Greg was to drunk to play and they were trying to sober him up.... They finally did come out and if you remember that far back the sound systems of that day generally were not up to large arenas, but I remember loving it anyway!! from that time I never missed seeing them when they came around and went to see them in all of the solo tours also ( Saw Dickey this past Friday! ) Went to the Beacon shows every year untill I moved here to Beautiful Fla.!!! I remember going to the first show without Dickey when they had this " kid " Taking his place, Well the kid was Derrick and the rest is History, I was hooked!!. I know this sounds corny but their music is in my soul and will be part of my life till the day I die! I cant listen to the Bros. without smiling, tapping my feet and singing along, and now I have finally started playing guitar and who wants to guess the first songs I am starting to learn??? I imagine some of you feel the same!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Yup, and Liz Reed, Actually started with the Freebird chords because they are real easy to learn but if you dont expect too much any song can be broken down!!

I dont know if I am ready for a public performance just yet, but the guy who's teaching me is coming too and I would guess he would be willing to jam!
