I caught NMA and HCR last in Troy, NY. Luther even jammed with HCR. But the highlight was when Luther played a Cigar Box Guitar with 2 strings on "Mississippi Bolweevil". I'll post links to the shows and pics of the guitar :!: 8-)

my husband has the same concern. we watch the First 48 and they are always filming murders in Memphis. we opted to stay out by the airport instead of in midtown where the venue is, and we might not even make it to beale street, except during the day. gonna be a very short trip!

LOVIN the show DartDog!! I'll be burnin it and learnin it.

here is a link to the review in KC if anyone is interested! no tapers there, what a shame!!

The crowd at Crosstown Station on Saturday night was small but in a large mood.

By the time the Lee Brothers were three songs into their set, their audience was a handful or two short of 100 people. By the time the set was over, more than two dozen of them were on the dance floor, dancing, singing along and acting like happy, boozed guests at a wedding reception.

The Lee Brothers are a six-piece sacred-steel band that includes three siblings and their nephews. They traffic in blues with heavy doses of funk and rock.

When they spliced Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” with Parliament’s “Give Up the Funk,” it felt like what Led Zep could do to a traditional blues song: turn it into something epic, thunderous and menacing.

Saturday night’s performance was the Lee Brothers’ final as the opening band for Hill Country Revue, the show’s headliner.

The Revue is led by Cody Dickinson of the North Mississippi All-Stars. Dickinson is out front with this band, but he is hardly its leader. Instead, this crew is more of an oligopoly that comprises several men with large physiques and personalities.

Daniel Coburn is one of them, a burly, tattooed and long-haired lead singer with a voice that probably didn’t need amplification in a room the size of Crosstown. He tossed in some blues harp, too, a couple of times.

Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers are two of the bands the Revue draws the bounty of its sound from. They also covered R.L. Burnside’s “Georgia Women,” featuring Dickinson on washboard. On that one, they sounded more like a hill-country band turned up to 11.

It was easy to imagine either of these bands playing a jam-band festival, though both kept the noodling to a minimum. Even the solo by Ed “Hot” Cleveland, the Revue’s electrifying drummer, was relatively to the point.

The night ended with a jamboree among the members of both bands. The music got fierce and heavy, and the 80 or so mostly 20- and 30-somethings in the place reveled in it, from the Southern-rock instrumental to the bruising, gritty cover of Peter Green’s "Going Down."

All of it sounded derivative, true; but it bristled with an edge and energy that made it more than an exercise in revivalism. It felt traditional and refreshing at the same time.

Yea a good road trip is something of beauty, there is definitely an art to em if dont correctly. The planning and gathering up of various nefarious 'supplies' is frequently more fun than the reaching of the destination itself. (Wanee does not fall into this category as the goal is way more fun than the road to it). But nonetheless, a certain joy washes over me as i plan for a substantial road trip. Have fun and be safe all.
