Stroke? I never heard about him having a stroke and I've been on the guitarslinger yahoogroup (all things Johnny) for years.

Well this information was announced on that fan-site I mentioned. It was told as the reason the concert was cancelled. It was a couple of weeks after to the concert I attended. So it's second hand information but still announced on that "official" site (runned by guess who?)

Despite my posting name, it wasn't Zappa, although Frank remains the greatest ever in my opinion. Saw FZ many times over the years and loved most of the shows, although occasionally his cantakerous-ness (not sure that's a word) made the show less than perfect. I would have to say the best show I ever saw for pure love of music was Buddy Guy. He waded through the crowd in bare feet with overalls on and about a two hundred foot cord hooked to his strat and just played. It was without a doubt the single fondest memory I have of attending a show. Notable shows include ABB in Atlanta, Little Feat in Tokyo, J. Geils Band (five hours!) and getting hit in the head by George Thorogood's guitar while we danced the night away in a little bar in Dayton, Ohio years and years ago.

I will have to revisit my Crossroads DVD and see JW in a whole new light. You're not far off. He is an albino and he is legally blind, but not totally blind. We had Johnny in our little blues club at the same time as the last Wanee, which is why I missed it. I had a little hand in bringing him to the club so I couldn't just bail out on the show. He's coming back this fall. We are talking about a club that holds 125 people max (ok, we squeezed in a few more than that!).

Jerry Garcia Band, Lunt Fontaine Theatre, NYC 10/31/87 - This is my alltime favorite single night of music, front row, smack in front of Jerry....Halloween night in NYC
Pink Floyd, Foxboro Stadium 1985 - Awesome light show
Grateful Dead, Oxford Plains Speedway 1987 - Little Feat opened both nights...
Jerry Garcia Band, Hilo High School Aud. Hilo, HI 1990 - SICK!
U2, Giants Stadium 1988 - Joshua Tree tour, amazing show!
Nonorable mention to Jamcruise 6 & 7 as these two events are right up there on my list!
