I am so excited about this one. I have a feeling its going to be great! They have been in a very good place lately as far as energy and creativity flowing freely. I am sure that will come through in their studio album. WSP is the shizzzznitttt!

Start with the first 4 studio albums.Learn them well and when you see them at Wanee it will all make sense.

Thank you everyone!!! Special thanks to scarletfire(gotta love that segue!)1585 for a detailed and useful PM.

As an avid collector of Dead and Brothers recordings, I've learned to cherish certain live cuts in a way that I could never love a studio track. That having been said, I have to truly digest their studio work before I can fully appreciate the nuances of the live recordings. In order to truly love a jam band I have to love both aspects of the band. Example: Phish's studio recordings? Shut the f!*k up. All that irritating nonsense language, corniness and overproduction. Phish live? I'm all about it.

I mentioned American Beauty because I consider it to be the greatest studio album the Dead ever made, and Skull and Roses because I consider it the best live album they ever made. After all this advice, it seems clear that Live in The Classic City is a contender for the best WSP album...what's their most essential studio album?

Space Wrangler and Everyday- two superb albums

Check out Diner, Wondering, Parsons Died, Dream Song

Driving Song, Holden Oversoul, Pleas, Love Tractor, Papa's Home

A few killer instruments on these as well. Other albums are also excellent, but these are the appropriate way to get your feet wet.

Hard to say really, but Widespread Panic aka Moms Kitchen contains some of their best songs IMO. I love Til the Medicine Takes (personal favorite) and Everyday is right up there with some of the best songs too. Any of those three are a good place to start as far as studio goes. And of course their latest, Free Somehow is great too, and the only studio album with Jimmy Herring. The others mentioned are with the original guitarist Mikey Houser.
