Re: What is the best bug spray ?
Those little fuc%ers are a nightmare. I camped on an island that had them really bad and passed out face down in the tent halfway hanging out...slamming that big bottle of Vodka sounded like a great idea and then topping it off with a big magnum of wine...of those days in my youth...anyway...big mistake...whole tent infested with no-see-ums and mosquitos.
Stealy Steve was not impressed when he came to bed and found the mess i had made. He was even less impressed when I woke up at 4 and wanted to air up the air matress we were using as a cover with the manual hand pump ...but then we ended up in the giggles. Got to love liquor.

Re: What is the best bug spray ?
Found this on Wikipedia when I looked up DEET:
Chemistry A slightly yellow liquid at room temperature, it can be prepared from m-methylbenzoic acid and diethylamine. This can be achieved by preparing the acid chloride and subsequently reacting that with the diethylamine. It can be distilled under vacuum: boiling point 111°C at 1 mm Hg.[citation needed]
The chemical also finds use in clandestine laboratories as a precursor for a key reagent in a popular LSD synthesis. Hydrolysis of the amide followed by distillation allows any chemist easy access to diethylamine [HN(Et)2], a DEA watched chemical.
Hmmmmmm.
