I can understand wanting to do it, as yes, you won't be choking when using it, (compared to the provided proto pottie), but just imagine if every camper had their own...chances are, you'd be setting up your tent within 20 ft of someones toilet.
How much time do you spend in the bathroom anyway?

I agree. Nasty stuff. Plus the bathrooms at Wanee aren't even that bad!

As far as sanitation goes, I think making my own toilet bucket is much more sanitary than the porto-johns. I also keep baby wipes in my toilet "room" and I bring a ton of hand sanitizer.

they are flippin nasty!!! i been 5 years and no matter what someone has ruined it for everyone... and as far as sanitation goes, just as clean as at home.. how would proxitnity to where you sleep change that... i can see m toliet from my bed at home ... 9 ft away... in fact im closer at home than i will be at wanee... i have a special tent it goes in JUST for this purpose... just chosse to build my seat instead of paying 75 bucks at a camping store.

75 bucks for what exactly? I use a Homer Bucket from home depot $5, and a toilet seat I bought for around $10.

i use same method you do helowrench, if you buy a camping toliet, its 75 bucks... the tent is 75 bucks aslo.. i just got a big tarp to wrap around some poles as a tent... whole project with new bucket , seat, tarp, poles, and 100 6 gallon liners.. 23 dollars...
