I am stuck, stuck, stuck on Monophonics' new disk "In Your Brain." I am ready to declare it my album of the year.

I bought this just because your review made it sound like a must have! I have to say that I really like it. Much more after the second listening. Thanks for the heads up!

Good call.

If you have never heard of them....just them out on Youtube or on the mag site.

Kind words from both of you. This is the music that formed my youth and college years and has dominated ever since. I will confess I liked the disk but was not raving until the fourth listen-through, when suddenly for me it all just clicked.

If you like how 60s soul and psychedelic music intertwined themselves, then Monophonics are for you. Check out their recordings on archive. This link is t=for the Wanee performance:

And one of many YouTube videos ("Foolish Love"):

I liked In Your Brain first listen.
But I think my download may be mislabeled. I have Sure Is Funky being an instrumental. And title track In Your Brain using the line, "sure is funky" repeatedly near the end.

I missed Mono at Wanee.....not sure what was opposite it on the other stage. This was very good TYS.....reminds me a little of Sly and the Family Stones...it is worth a second chance if they return. :D

Light - Phish

I can see the light between me and my mind
I can feel memories fall behind
And the light is growing brighter now
And the light is growing brighter now

I see the future is less and less there
And the past has vanished in the air
And I'm left in the now with a wondrous glow
I think I’m still me
But how would you know?

It takes a few moments of whirling around
Before your feet finally leave the ground
And fending off fears and hearing the call
And finally waiting for nothing at all
And the light is growing brighter now
And the light is growing brighter now

Obstacles are stepping-stones
That guide us to our goals
Fences are filters
That purify our souls

There are things that music can do that language could never do, that painting can never do, or sculpture. Music is capable of going directly to the source of the mystery. It doesn't have to explain it. It can simply celebrate it.(and make you dance your azzoff!)
