Momma Nature. Full VOLUME!!

It’s what I miss most since leaving the beach. Opened sliders and listening to the ocean waves crashing on the shore at night.

On nights turning into mornings in college when we were experienced, it was always very quiet outside. Then, at some point, maybe 5 AM, apparently somebody flipped a switch and woke up the first bird. Once that first bird started chattering, the rest of the birds would slowly join in the chorus.

But there was always that first bird!

This morning on Sirius 49 Soul Town (I KNOW! I changed it from 27 Deep Tracks!) they were playing "There Was a Time" by James Brown from the album Live At the Apollo II (1968).

Here is a review from allmusic.com:

[Review by Richie Unterberger] As a whole, this double album is pretty erratic -- there are a bunch of torchy R&B ballads that were somewhat anachronistic in light of the explosive funk innovations Brown was unleashing in the studio during this time, and some of those funk hits are reprised here in super-brief versions that seem to cut off before they have a chance to get started. On the other hand, some of it is as essential as anything else Brown ever recorded. In particular, the 20-minute medley of "Let Yourself Go/There Was a Time/I Feel All Right/Cold Sweat" is a magnificent, seamless ball of energy, a landmark performance in the evolution of soul and funk.

Here is evidence. This comprises the first two sides of the double LP. Slide in to 15:27 and fasten your seatbelts!

Bramblett is another great underrecognized talent. He was great at Wanee a few years back.

For many years at the foot of the bridge separating Panama City from Panama City Beach are was a "local" bar that refused to put out a sign....so it became known as the No Name Bar. They were not catering to tourists....only locals. Finally, everyone figured out where this bar was....that they finally put out a small sign
"NO Name Bar". I think it is still there....haven't been there in a while.

I particularly like "Lucky Southern" with Keith Jarrett and used to play that in my days as a radio jazz DJ.

My friend saw Airto in concert. As the man himself, pronounced his name:

EYE-EAR-TOE (pointing to the body parts). AIRTO!
