There was a great Arlo and janis cartoon some years ago.
Arlo is lying on the floor with headphones on.
Janis asks him, "What are you listening to?"
Arlo replies: "THE BEATLES. THE WHITE CD."

I guess you had to be there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNY8eYmzdH4&feature=kp stones arent pretty sometimes but deserve just as much recognition as the mop tops doing the studio work is great but to deliver the goods live. stones are the best. another reason the abb are so good.

I have 5,000 of 'em in the back room. Linda let me hit the turntable for 4 hours a couple of weekends ago. She worked on her gag reflex a couple of times, I'm sure!

I had a blast!

I DO love the Stones, probably more. However, for those of a certain age, if you put the CD version of "A Hard Day's Night" on, I'd bet you could sing ALL the lyrics to EVERY song! What a fabulous set:

A Hard Day's Night
I Should Have Known Better
If I Fell
I'm Happy Just to Dance with You
And I Love Her
Tell Me Why
Can't Buy Me Love
Any Time at All
I'll Cry Instead
Things We Said Today
When I Get Home
You Can't Do That
I'll Be Back

"When I get home tonight
I'm gonna treat her right.
I'm gonna love her
'Til the cows come home."

It was not really a competition between the Beatles...the Stones...the Freddie and the Dreamers....the Herman's Hermits....
and so on and so on, Scooby doobie do be.

They were all in it for love of the music.
The Stones were a "darker and harder edged" music than the Beatles. But in their own right...but both were excellent bands and musical prodigies.

The Beatles changed the world. There music was groundbreaking in a sense...and they continued to evolve throughout their career.
The evolved from simple love songs to songs with feelings and emotions about everyday events and history (war). They went from 4 guys playing single tracks to 4....and 16 track machines.
They went from guitars to sitars...from just the 4 of them to entire orchestras....from simple ditties to psychedelic....with dubs and overdubs....to sounds of nature and animals. Their songs had meaning with subtle references.
Their style went from suits and mop-tops....to Indian attire....to uniforms (Sgt. Pepper)....to long hair....beards.
They constantly evolved in style and substance. Sure they made a few mistakes along the way...but haven't we all?

I agree on every point. Things would certainly be different if there had been no Rolling Stones, but the Beatles changed the entire landscape.
