Can I change my question? :?: :?: :?:

I swear I didn’t use the internet to get the answer. I did just now and came up with this
question. Don’t use the internet…It’s easy!

Janis Joplin who topped the U.S. singles chart with the song Me and Bobby McGee
in 1971 after her death, making the song the second posthumous number-one single in U.S. chart history after ?
Name the artist and song that achieved a chart topper hit single after the artists death? Who did it first?

Is that your final answer?

Sorry that’s a wrong answer...
The artist and song I am looking for is not Janis Joplin.

I would guess one of the following bands:

Jimi Hendrix
Jim Morrison and the Doors
Jim Croce
John Lennon
don't think George had any 1's
John Denver???
what was the name of the guy that played the piano and sang....killed in plane crash, I think????
but don't know what song might have made it..

Really, I don't know.....

Sure on that?

Quote:
........and Janis Joplin who topped the U.S. singles chart with the song in 1971 after her death, making the song the second posthumous number-one single in U.S. chart history after "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding.

Quote:
...Janis Joplin also covered the song for inclusion on her Pearl album only a few days before her death in October 1970. Kristofferson had sung the song for Joplin, and singer Bob Neuwirth taught it to her. Kristofferson, however, did not know she had covered it until after her death (the first time he heard it was the day after she died). Joplin's version topped the charts to become her only number one single

but I cheated and used google to get it, so NO credit. :)

Volke, I think the song you are referencing was Me and Bobby McGee which was the answer to my question. Not sure she had another number 1. My question was answered by Waneebe and the next question was..... who else had a Number 1 posthumously.....which I think you might have answered with Otis.

I am at the end of a 12 hr workday, and wet. I misread. And I was SO trying not to put the song title in.

Mea Culpa.
