And he wears them well. He actually played drums on one song but it was recorded in the early 70's but not released until street survivors

That was a good one! Ricky Medlocke. It's funny , I didn't remember that they used the original Muscle Shoals collection for a few of those on Survivors! Hey speaking of Muscle Shoals , what is the Drive by Truckers connection to that Muscle Shoals 1971 Skynyrd recording?

Who played on both of skynyrds albums "street survivors 1978" and " last of a dyin breed 2012"? Oh and I am not talking about Gary rossington! :D

Artemis Pyle ???

WRONG…I cheated
and by the way the year Street Survivors was released was 1977, Just 3 days before the plane crash.

I owned a record store in Tampa at the time, and of course the original cover had the flames on it. That batch sold out very quickly, and shortly thereafter the non-flame covers were released.

Remember that I am ancient, older than some dirt.

School Kids records on 30th Street, across from what was then the Schlitz plant. First address was 11130 before we expanded down the shopping center at 11112. I haven't thought about those in a long time.

So why can I remember them and not where I put my sunglasses?

Keys?

Phone?

By the time I was old enough to get myself to Tampa it was 1984. We did used to visit a place called OZ across from the Schlitz plant.

Patterson Hood of the Drive By Truckers is the son of David Hood an original member and bass player for the Swampers (Muscle Shoals Sound house band). Lynyrd Skynyrd recognized the Swampers in their song Sweet Home Alabama. Also I think Patterson Hood wrote a song about Skynyrd.

It's not my turn, but I am butting in.

We all know and love the superb Humble Pie version of "I Don't Need No Doctor" from the Fillmore East live double LP (with a LONG version of "Gilded Splinters") -- during the closing of the Fillmore: Zappa, J. Geils, ABB and more.

Who wrote the song?

Who was it written for?

When did he record it? [extra credit]
