Oooh! Oooh! I know Tampa, Fl. She was cussing out the police for trying to keep dancing hippies in their seats.

I suck at asking questions! I'm sorry. Just a wealth of useless knowledge knocking around upstairs.

In The River thread, I posted about Terry Reid's album "The River" (absolutely amazing). Reid had burst onto the scene with his slam-bang cover of "Bang Bang (You Shot Me Down)" and then songs such as "Silverlungs Supergirl."

As one band was winding down and another rising from its ashes, Reid was asked to be the lead singer, but he turned the gig down and recommended a friend for the job. It might not have been his best career move, as the friend and that band rose to superstardom.

Name the band. (There is a Wanee connection.)

OMG. I mean really OMG. I was going to pose this same question… Just the other day I was reading all about Terry Reid’s career. The gig he passed up was with The New Yardbirds, or forever to be know as Led Zeppelin. He was busy doing his own touring gig opening for Cream in 1968. My brother was turned on to him at the Miami Pop Festival. He bought the album and it got much play time in our home. Later, Reid also was offered the vocalist gig with Deep Purple.

Judie and I did the Vulcan mind meld!

Take your pick:

[A] Great minds run in the same channel, or

[B] Fools think alike.

Actually, fools rush in... and get the best seats!

And I did not know about the Deep Purple thing! I have mentioned (early and often) that my favorite band from last year's Wanee, monophonics, do a tremendous cover of Terry Reid's tremendous cover of sonny and Cher's "Bang Bang."

Judie's turn to try, tryyyyyy,

The Wanee connection, of course, was Robert Plant, Terry Reid's friend, appearing on the Peach Stage in 2011.

WOODSTOCK act decided by the flip of a coin…
It’s a Beautiful Day almost were invited to the festival. When Michael Lang was negotiating with Bill Graham to get the Grateful Dead to appear, Graham insisted Lang put one of two acts that he managed on the bill. Lang then listened to a tape of both It's a Beautiful day and the other band and liked them so much that he couldn't decide so he flipped a coin and It's a Beautiful Day lost. The band that won was ?

I'm torn between two bands ( like the promoter) but, I'll guess Santana.

You take it, happycamper, but I concur. Especially given the way he pushed Santana to close the Fillmore West.
