What is phrase is used in Baltimore even more than "Hey, hon!"?

BROOKS WOULD HAVE HAD THAT.

If you are a baseball fan, watch this clip, especially at 2:10, 4:50 and 5:25.

[Bobby wants plain toast, which isn't on the menu]

Bobby: I'd like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce. And a cup of coffee.

Waitress: A #2, chicken salad sand. Hold the butter, the lettuce, the mayonnaise, and a cup of coffee. Anything else?

Bobby: Yeah, now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich, and you haven't broken any rules.

Waitress: You want me to hold the chicken, huh?

Bobby: I want you to hold it between your knees.

That movie made a real impression when I first saw it in the theatre. Especially that scene!

I had a small record store in Tampa 74-78. This little black guy in some sort of city uniform used to come in pretty regularly. He asked me to order something by Louis Jordan. I kept thinking he meant the French dude Louis Jordan. That's how I learned about him.

Then I was fortunate enough to meet a musician from St. Pete who, like many other jazz cats from the states, became an ex-patriot in Europe. Born Leonard Graham, he changed his name to Idrees Sulieman. Idrees recorded with most of the top jazz musicians of the time, inclduing a number of great records with John Coltrane.

Idrees (as Graham) was the trumpet player on some of Jordan's first recordings ("Buzz Me" and "Somebody Done Changed the Locks"). I compiled Sulieman's discography in the early 80s. He was one of the few musicians who played -- effectively both trumpet and saxophone (Benny Carter and Ira Sullivan are the other two main ones).

For everyone who thinks he knows when rock and roll was invented, listen to Jordan play "Ain't Nobody Here But Us chickens" or "Saturday Night Fish Fry."
