Yeah. What happened to those "small birds?" Did we DDT them out of existence?

PM me your e-mail address. There is a guy in Tampa named Ray Villadonga who with Peter Tush does the Step Outside program on WMNF in Tampa. They play "outside" music of all sorts, from classical to metal and everything in between.

Ray has a band called, at some points, Rayzilla's PBS. On his CD entitled "It's Alive and Has Pimples," he does a great song where he talks about exactly that!

It is so interesting how these things match up.

The other day, I just started singing the old Bobby Hebb tune "Sunny." [My life is a musical. I spontaneously break out into song, much to my wife's chagrin.] I had not heard or thought about it in at least 20 years.
The next day, somebody posted on FaceCrack an awesome video of James Brown singing Sunny, at first as a ballad, until the band comes stomping in: Bootsy, Maceo, Fred, Catfish, and the rest.

LIFE IS GOOD.

Post Re: Remember When
As I careen like a dinosaur toward the tar pits (mastodon, whatever), I am in many regards (this is NOT coming as a shock to most of you) remarkably old-fashioned and "proper."

So another of my pet peeves, along with split infinitives (although there isn't really a better way to say "...to boldly go..."), is the use of the word AND in numbers.

DUCK NOW, DELETE, OR GO TO THE NEXT THREAD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

And word AND in a number is used to separate the whole number part from the fractional part (see, I told you). We say five and one half, or six and seven tenths.

523 should be pronounced "five hundred twenty-three," NOT "five hundred AND twenty-three."

I know, I know. Too late. Horse is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out of the barn.

But how about pure innumeracy (illiteracy as it pertains to numbers)? Here is the killer. We acknowledge that these two amounts are not equal: $99 and $.99. Ninety-nine dollars is very different than 99 cents.

But somehow, at almost every store, you can find items, such as a liter of soda, for .99 cents (they use the cent sign, which I don't know how to do here, but you get the picture). Apparently, to most retailers AND most consumers, 99 cents and .99 cents are equal, while $99 and $.99 are not.

Is that a tar pit up ahead?

Speaking of Pits.

I remember swimming in the old Quarry Pits after they were played out.

Rock Crusher Pit near Crystal River comes to mind.
