Two top teams
One goal difference
Sounds about right

Those Canadian women are a bit fanatical about the game. We met a stunning Cape Breton fiddle player (as she describes herself) named Jennifer Roland. Watching her fiddle AND dance at the same time is incredible! And she plays amateur hockey, and her team's name is Miz Conducts.

At least you know what to expect!

Given that there eight teams in two groups of four, it baffles the mind why the US and Canada are in the same division to begin with.

I actually dig curling. My friend made a little curling board. I remember jumping out of the car in Sydney, Nova Scotia, to take a picture of the Sydney Curling Club.

And it's not just because you've got women sweeping the ice screaming HARD HARD HARD.

But it helps...

And speaking of curling, there was a sport I thought was called hurling (not to be confused with the game MANY of US play, not that I'm implicating myself OR YOU in ANY WAY).

It used to be featured as a clip at the beginning of Wide World of Sports (the one that ended with the agony of defeat with the ski jumper crashing off the side of the hill). It looked like the bastard offspring of men's field hockey and lacrosse. Some dude was getting clobbered in the noggin.

Looked like fun. From the stands.

Remember when the two stars of Russia's track team were irina and Tamara press. One of them ran the springs and had thighs like tree trunks and more five-o'clock shadow than I do. The other did discus and shotput and could lift a tractor.

Oddly, they were NEVER featured in a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

Sisters Tamara and Irina Press won five track and field Olympic gold medals for the Soviet Union, and set 26 world records in the 1960s. Their careers suddenly ended at the time that gender verification was introduced.
