and who could ever forget:
THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY HA HA -- NAPOLEAN XIV
the flip side of the 45 (single to you kiddies) was:
AH AH YAWA EM EKAT OT GNIMOC ER'YEHT -- VIX NAELOPAN
and, yes, it was backward -- all by itself.

 Re: One Hit Wonders
No apologies -- I just love this thread.
I missed a few from 1963:
Pipeline -- the Chantays Rhythm of the Rain -- the Cascades Wipeout -- the Surfaris (flip side: Surfer Joe) Mr. Bass Man -- Johnny Cymbal Midnight Mary -- Joe Powers Dominique -- the Singing Nun
and
Sukiyaki -- Kya Sakamoto (entirely in Japanese, and we tried to sing along!)

 Re: One Hit Wonders
By 1967, things were definitely changing. It was the year of the Monterey Pop Festival. So, of course, there was "San Francisco (Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)" by Scott Mckenzie. And GMC already called "Judy in Disguise (with Glasses)" by John Fred and His Playboy Band.
And:
Different Drum -- the Stone Ponys (Of course, Linda Ronstadt became a huge star) We Ain't Got Nothin' yet -- the Blues Magoos I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night -- the Electric Prunes both bands had a number of good records, but these were their only "hits."
Let It All Hang Out -- the Hombres Come On Down to My Boat Baby -- Every Mother's Son Incense & Peppermints -- the Strawberry Alarm Clock Expressway to Your Heart -- the Soul Survivors Little Bit O' soul -- Music Explosion To Sir, With Love -- Lulu (she also starred in the movie) Green Tambourine -- the Lemon Pipers Baby, Now That I've Found You -- the Foundations
