Post Re: RIP Alvin Lee
Sad indeed. To clarify, this is the great leader of Ten Years After, not the guitar player for our beloved Lee Boys.

I admit I freaked when I saw the post before I checked.

Saw them in 1971. They were awesome. The set closer was often this incendiary version of "I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes."

Lee was nearly immobile when he played. All of his gyrations came out of his face. Creem Magazine described him as lloking "like he was jacking off with steel wool."

The only time he even tapped his foot was during the encore, usually a quick rocker such as "Baby Won't You Let Me Rock & Roll You."

The first two Ten Years After records (OK, CDs) are highly recommended: "Ten Years After" and "Undead." The former is very bluesy, with a great 9-minute take on "Help Me." The later is a brilliant jazzy disk that never wears thin on the ears.

He continued to record throughout his career but kept a very low profile after the 80s.
